History

Burkmann Feeds began operations when longtime friends and University of Kentucky classmates, David Williams and Jerry Germann, came together to found the company, purchasing what had been a Purina facility adjacent to the railroad switching yard in Danville, Kentucky in 1978. The following year a new feed plant was completed capable of receiving product from both rail and truck, and providing a high level of product integrity in both textured and pelleted feed products. The growth Burkmann Feeds has experienced over the past 30 years has been dramatic. The following are some of the milestones the company has experienced during that time:

1978 Founded by Dr. David Williams and Mr. Jerry Germann
1979 New feed plant completed in Danville, opened business
1986 Added Nutritionist, Dr. Gary T. Lane
1986 Opened mill and store at Eubank, Kentucky
1989 Added Nutritionist, Dr. Darrell Johnson
1990 Opened store in Glasgow, Kentucky - Eugene Myatt, Partner
1990 Formed partnership with M&W Milling, Columbia, Kentucky - Homer Goodin, Partner
1990 Formed partnership with Kentucky Nutrition Services - Dr. Ron Wendlandt
1992 Began producing feed in Glasgow, Kentucky
1993 Opened mill and store in London, Kentucky - Gary Allen, Partner
1995 Purchased Pan American Mills, Bowling Green, Kentucky. Now used exclusively for bird seed production.
1997 Purchased Producer Feeds, Louisville, Kentucky
1997 Added Nutritionist, Keith West, M.S.
2000 Opened store in Edmonton, Kentucky
2001 Formed Burkmann Information Technologies (computer systems, networking, repairs)
2002 Opened store in Murfreesboro Tennessee, Celebration Feeds
2003 Opened store in Cookeville, Tennessee, Celebration Feeds
2004 Opened store in Shelbyville, Tennessee, Celebration Feeds
2005 Opened store in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky
2006 Added Corporate Vice President, Tom Hastings
2006 Acquired Formax Feeds
2007 Opened store in Lebanon, Kentucky
2007 Opened store in Hardinsburg, Kentucky
2007 Added Nutritionist, Dr. Chris DePew
2012 Added Nutritionist, Dr. John Johns
2012 Opened store in Rineyville, Kentucky
2012 Opened store in Bowling Green, Kentucky
2012 Purchased Putnam Farm Supply and moved Celebration Feeds store to Putnam location, Cookeville, TN
2013 Opened new store in Manchester, Tennessee - Larry Scott, Partner 
2014 Merged Tapps and Producer Feeds to create Excel Equine - Dr. Kent Thompson, Partner
2014 Purchased M&W Milling and created Burkmann Columbia
